Should schools enforce dress codes and uniforms?
Change is hard for most of us. Change where we have free choice eliminated is change that makes a lot of people cranky. As for uniforms, we all wear them. Sometimes I wonder if people would behave better if everyone were required to wear 'business casual' most of the time? I realize that it would never happen, but haven't you realized how much more well-mannered people are when they are "dressed for success"?I have always like the policy of having young men wear collared shirts to school and work. Our clothing reminds us to straighten up and fly right. When we wear our jeans and our comfy clothes our behavior follows suit. I live in San Diego. Most people here live in shorts and flip flops most of the year. The Ugg boots come out when the weather falls below 65 degrees (no kidding!). The nature of the culture follows the sun. Are people who live in colder climates statistically more successful? Do they also have more formal dress codes? (These are silly thoughts that take up space in mind when I can't sleep.) Anyway, I really think that we behave the way that we are expected to. When there are no expectations set, people we do what ever they feel like. I don't think that's a good thing. We all need to have boundaries and expectations.
Do you behave differently based on what you are wearing?
